Taylor BT2 Baby Mahogany Top Acoustic Guitar With Bag

Description

Taylor BT2 Baby Mahogany Top Acoustic Guitar With Bag Overview:

This mahogany-top edition of the Baby Taylor will yield a slightly darker, earthier tone than its spruce top sibling. The pint-size mini-Dreadnought was originally inspired by a desire to provide a smaller, starter-size guitar for kids and a legitimate musical companion for travelers, but players have since adapted it for their needs in all sorts of creative ways, from high-stringing it to setting it up to play lap slide, to embracing alternate tunings that add unique acoustic flavors to recordings. At the heart of it all is an authentic guitar sound and inviting playing experience. The guitar comes in a gig bag for easy toting convenience.

Features:

Baby

Body Length: 15 3/4″ / Body Width: 12 1/2″ / Body Depth: 3 3/8″

A versatile, small bodied guitar that delivers an authentic Taylor playing experience.

  • 3/4-size Dreadnought

  • Arched back for added strength

  • Great for travel, alternate tunings, and kids

A ¾-size Dreadnought that’s big on tone.

A ¾-scale Dreadnought, the Baby Taylor is designed to yield a ton of volume for its small size. A layered sapele back is pressed into a slight arch, providing strength and helping produce the Baby’s full, rich tone. It’s also remarkably versatile for special applications, whether played in alternate tunings or high-strung; with a capo or a slide. And it’s the perfect travel companion or starter guitar for young kids.

Taylor’s ¾-size mini-Dreadnought helped spawn the travel guitar market with a well-crafted design that blends musicality and playability. Its small size also makes it a great starter guitar for kids and an ultra-compact songwriting guitar, and adds a unique acoustic flavor to a music mix.

Tropical Mahogany

Origin: Central and South America

Used On: GS Mini Mahogany, Baby Mahogany, Limited Editions, Custom Guitars

  • A hardwood top with more density than spruce or cedar
  • The stiffness initially yields a bright tone that gradually gets deeper
  • Used On: GS Mini Mahogany, Baby Mahogany, Limited Editions, Custom Guitars

Harder, denser woods like mahogany and koa that are used on the back and sides of a guitar are sometimes used as tops. Their stiffness initially translates into a bright tone and tends to need more play-in time to open up, but the more a mahogany-top guitar is played, the more it develops overtones that contribute to a fuller, richer sound. A mahogany-top guitar might appeal to rootsy players who like a little extra punchiness in their tone.

Goes Well With: Blues and roots players, anyone who likes an slightly more burly or punchy quality to their tone.

Layered Sapele

While the rich tones of solid wood remain unmatched, a layered wood construction can yield great sound in a beautiful, durable and affordable instrument. Such is the case with layered sapele, in which we use interior and exterior veneers of sapele with a core layer of poplar between them. One of the benefits of layered wood for guitars is extra resilience in the face of fluctuating humidity conditions. This comes in handy for guitars like the GS Mini and Baby Taylor models, which are travel-friendly guitars that may be more directly exposed to different environments. All Taylor layered-wood models feature a solid wood top to optimize the tonal response.

No Electronics

We respect guitar players who know what they want—and what they don’t. Most Taylor models that come standard with acoustic electronics can be ordered without them. Just contact your local Taylor dealer and they’ll make it happen. The good news is that if you ever change your mind, our Service department can install a pickup. We will say that if you’re on the fence about it, or think you don’t need one right now, it’s nice to have—you never know when you might want to do some home recording or play that open mic night and cross it off your bucket list.

Non-cutaway

There’s a lot to be said for the clean, traditional look of a non-cutaway acoustic guitar, which is why we offer a line of non-cutaway models. If you don’t plan to play in the upper register, or simply prefer the symmetrical hourglass contours of a guitar, a non-cutaway model is a great option.
